I found this mushroom west of Sooke in my daughter's yard. Can anyone help to identify it?

I put a cap on paper, hoping for a spore print but what I got was a volume of yellow liquid, a dreadful odour, and now it looks like this.

Thanks,

Hello Carita!

Well, at a glance I am not too sure about what you have there. It might help if we knew what the structure underneath the cap was like. Were there gills? pores? If so, what color.

And is that last pic a photo of the underside of the cap? or a dried version?

Hi, thanks for replying. There were no gills. The interior looked like a dark yellow sponge of some sort......not like the boletes.......more like a truffle. I put the cap on heavy white paper and a large quantity of yellow liquid spread out from under it, with a rather nasty odour. After sitting for several days, all that was left was the third picture. I've researched it and have found nothing that comes close to a description of it. Still looking 8O

Hmmm, the inside looks like cutting open a old puffball.

From the picture, it looks like you have a mushroom that has been attacked by another patristic fungus..maybe some sort of mold.
This would explain the smell and the looks of the last picture.

I was going to say that- a fungus on a fungus!! From the looks of the photo it does look somewhat gone over!!

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the replies. I found another one of these critters on a beach trail. Rather different in appearance to the two I posted but almost identical to another one from the original batch I found. Certainly the same putrid odour!

I believe they are a puffball of some sort. I brought the cap of this one home and the underside is now yellow. When I find out what it is, I'll post it here.

Cheers,
Carita
