TOPIC: Morels

Morels 5 years, 8 months ago #864

Anyone out there as excited as I about the approaching morel season? I've been out two weekends in a row tryin to sniff the little buggers out, but no such luck yet. If anyone has seen any yet, possibly south of me (im in southern ontario, sandwiched between the great lakes) please let me know so I don't go crazy looking for them early which I no doubt am already. I'll be sure to let you know when I come across my first harvest too for all the other morel fanatics out there. Have fun in the woods all and don't eat any poison, unless you really really really want to.

I went out a couple of times looking but I had no luck. It has been a little dry around here as of late. Perhaps during the next rain that we get I will have more luck. I can't wait till then.

I went out today scouting out possible locations, and yes it is really dry right now. I'll let you know when I spot something good.

It's been raining here (Toronto area) for a few days & will continue for a few more. Hopefully the yummy fungi will be popping up soon, I'll begin hunting this weekend.

Ah guys, guys, you really should move to the side of this country that makes climatic sense. Morels are up in B.C. and if twenty pounds or so after four leisurely days of picking sounds interesting, when you get here I will show you where to go.

LOL indeed B.C. is no doubt the mushroom capital of Canada, but Ontario is quite abundant in the creation of morals, chanterelles, fairy rings, puffballs etc., even a few choice species of 'magics'. Almost mirrors B.C. in that way. See you have the ocean for moisture, we have the great lakes, and the great lakes region of canada is very prolific. If you've only ever hunted in B.C., then don't knock the rest of the country until you've seen all the wonderfull mycological wonders Canada has to offer.
