I found this out in the woods. It appeared to be growing from a mix of soil and wood debris from the ground. The keys point to psilocybe and the spore print is purple-black. I dont recall ever seeing a species that looks like this in any of my books. There was no manure around.

The caps are extremely slimy and have a removable layer.

I'm sure that the above species is not active, and I am not into actives too much. I just like all mushrooms in general and i thought these ones looked cool!

I'm gonna go back out there some time tommorow and see if any more have popped up after this rain that we have been having.

Cut one in half up the stem and put it on a piece of glass from a picture frame. put a cap gills down and a cap gills up on the glass too.
put the glass on a scanner with a quarter or ruler beside them and take a scan...a spore print upside down on a black/white sheet of paper would help too.
it's the best way to show someone so they can look it up in a book or see all the details.
mention texture (dry slimy brittle rubbery whatever)and try to get the stalk outside scanned as well.

I dont actually have any fresh specimens right now, found em a couple days ago.. I was back out there today and i saw a couple more but didnt pick them. If i have to, ill try to find time to go back and grab fresh specimens.

I can give a description of them though.

The cap sizes range from .5cm to 2.5cm, conic when young, cap expanding to convex, almost always with an acute umbo. Very sticky when moist and there is a seperable gelatinous pellicle (i was peeling them off with my bare hand).

The stem is pretty long but only about 2mm thin. It is pretty durable and not breaking easily. I didnt notice a veil on any of the specimens collected thus far. No blueing in the stems or in the small pieces of mycelium that i pulled up.

The gills have white edges, are a dark brown to black color, greyish brown in younger specimens. Spore print purplish-black.

sorry it got out of focus but as you can sort of see in this pic, there is NO coniferous trees around. Hardwoods only.
