As long as you don't drink too much you should be fine.

Damn, the pic stretched the board all up, ill just post a link.

Notice the shotglass has some old sulphur and an expired magnesium strip from an old experiment gone bad lol. I even have some chemical resistant gloves, pipette and tons of other glassware.

I had a little alcohol burner but I got sick of soot in my cultures
now I use one of these..fully adjustable from hot enough to melt glass to a low standby flame. It gets a scalpel red hot in 3 seconds flat.

www.bernzomatic.com/bernzomatic/consumer...1&productId=BM019205

I also use it to flame a dish I use to rest my scalpel on when I'm between transfers.and I can use it to get rid of condensation on the inside of my petri dishes(Pyrex not plastic!)

$9.99 for the torch head alone at canadian tire

$15.99 for the head with a tank of fuel.

I found mine in the garbage(Free!)with 2 half empty tanks!(Free! Free!)

Like peterthinks, I prefer a torch too...they are way more convenient.
But the large propane ones are too bulky for me, I like the smaller butane ones like:
