Well, its not exactly all my own doing, but I got a log infected(dunno if thats the right word) with oyster mushroom. Anyone else ever had one of these ready spawned logs??

Cool Mark, I think infected = innoculated , after innoculation comes colonization . Colonization is when the mycelium is established in the medium (in your case the log ). Are you fruiting outside or are you putting it in a controlled enviroment?I have fruited shitake on logs.Is yours a block of wood chips or an actual log?
I am the nosey one aren't I?
Thanks ,Keep us posted.

I didn't buy my logs, but I did get a tray of spawn plugs from a local shitake grower & innoculated some small logs I got from a friends acerage.

I started those logs late last spring & am hoping for fruit this spring.
As sor terminology, infected is technically fine, but infected brings up unhealthy feelings, most growers I've spoke with use innoculated or spawned. Colonizing is sometimes referred to as the spawn run.
Good luck to both of us

Well its an innoculated log- it looks like silver birch to me and its outside though I may move it from its current location(I think it will get too much afternoon sun)

I've had to play with my location, I'll probably move it again in the spring.
