I know it's a mess but I'm a slob at heart.
Nothing magic about these mushrooms...just cooking mushroom cultures.
This is just the beginning here I haven't even had one crop yet, check back once in a while to see the lab grow.It gets a little hot in here in the summer so I'm going to have to rig a cooler unit for the incubator.

So hows the mushroom lab doing? Haven't heard from you in a while and I'm wandering what success you have.

Well everything is kind of on hold till I get the house fixed up..Seems like one problem after another here.Roof, insulation, moving walls and such.
not much time for hobbies.
I've had some enokie spontaniously sprout in a petri dish or two.
the blue oyster also tried to get out of it's dish.
the Oyster experiment went best in just plain cardboard and I've had problems with anerobic bacteria in the center of culture bags.
I will try flatter fruiting blocks.
I also innoculated some logs with Shitakkie...they are mellowing under a bush in the back yard.
I also need to rig timed lighting so the blocks fruit.
Right now I'm just maintaining my cultures and practising sterile techniques.
The glovebox is still unfinished but I did find appropriate gloves "mucking gloves"from Lee Valley Tools.
I went camping and actually found some Mushrooms that I ate
My first self picked and self identified mushrooms ever!
They were "Orange Birch Bolete"
very tasty over an open fire with just salt and butter.
I had a few to bring home to culture but a racoon or something ate them.
an interesting side note is that he only ate the edible ones.
the poisionous ones I picked were left behind.
The lab will see more use in the winter.
I will be foraging myself tomorrow morning at Birds hill park in Manitoba Canada tomorrow.
I'm hoping to find the mushrooms my Grandfather used to pick in that area.
Wish me luck.

Peter
