Just trying out the posting system (newbie).
I am in NE Indiana..Last year i picked and ate over 30 different kinds of mushrooms.
The biggest one was a Hen Of The Woods that weighed over 20 pounds.

Sounds great, Sporeprint. I have yet to really familiarize myself with the common edibles found in Colorado, but I have found a couple patches of Pleurotus pulmonarius and expect to find many more as April warms up.

hey vapourboy, what were those oysters growing on?
I am curious because I have some colonized dowels form fungi perfecti of that very species, and I was wondering what I should crow them on. I was thinking a conifer like a douglas fir or something, but I'm curious to know what they're growing on in the wild?
thanks!

Well, they were in a "wild" front yard.
But they were growing on a hardwood stump. I'm really not sure as it looked to have been dead a couple of seasons, but it was probably a tree/bush species because it had branches from the very bottom of the stump. Definitely a hardwood though.
I hear that they grow particularly well on alder and aspen, however. I'll see today as I'm heading up to some great aspen groves!

It'll be interesting to see how the oyster mushrooms from the dowel do because I'm think about doing the same in the future.

Most of the oysters I've found are almost always on a dead alder.
