Hi all,
Some of you may want to check out http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/ Its got lots of interesting stuff on there with over 3000 images from of fungi both sides of the Atlantic.- and growing! Theres a free 10 day trial for complete access to the site - something which I'm about to take advantage of.

I know I could've just added this to the links but it really does seem like a good site.

That is a massive site - lots of good info, thanks for the link Mark. Always helpful to have a good online resource.

For me in the UK, the price is quite cheap at the moment due to the good exchange rate between the pound and the dollar so I took the plunge. However, the forum is not very active on that site, so for me it is another reference website.

On another note, I may write(or should that be type?) reviews of some of my books for this site.

For the west coast of North America, the season (generally) runs from late fall to late spring, and the rest of the time, you're champing at the bit waiting for it to start up again. What about in England? Is it year-round? If not, could a "pop" of a specific species account for no response in 8 days as they are all out in the field filling their baskets with nature's bounty?

Well we have our spring season from the end of the winter frosts to about mid may then the temperatures get up and most fleshy fungi disappear.

Then theres the autumn season from mid/end of August (temperature dependent) to maybe mid to late November depending on if there's any severe frosts.

I went out foraying saturday just gone with the group I'm a member of and found a few things though not too many. Were are now starting to get consecutive nights below freezing so I'd say that its getting near the end of the mushroom season. I will be taking a trip in the next couple of days to some gardens near me: http://www.hilliergardens.org.uk/ I may find some stuff there.

I was up there yesterday to take my kids to santas grotto and found a few species of Psathyrellas and Stropharia Aurantiaca growing on wood chip mulch.

For most of UK its been a crazy year where fungi is considered- lots of different types have been found this year and species normally considered rare have been found quite a few times. Hopefully 2005 will be the same.

Southern Ontario season ended a few weeks ago. There were some frosts in early October but there were still fungi to be found till November. Today the high was about -10 C, definately season over.
BTW I did have a quick look at that site, seems decent. Thanks for the heads up about lack of replies on the forum.

I checked back again today and theres 2 more subjects on there, but no replies on any of those. The piccies on the site are good- one of the reasons why I paid up for my membership.

Give it some time, the gallery here should be pretty good after a couple more seasons.
