For anyone living on Vancouver ISland you may know what I'm talking about. i dotn know anything about them really and have no pics. purely a curiosity and hoping someone knwos the ones.

Last year i was there in mid summer trying to catch the toad boom. we were just leaving the parking lot and saw these 3 fungi. The environment wher ethey were was growing out of a dry dirt/gravel parking lot with a moist moss doug fir/cedar forest next to it. they were in full sun and did not apear to have much moisture, but hte mycelium was probably masive.

Anyway these things were not the classic mushroom look, they were about 11" tall and pretty much a mis formed cylinder. they were around 6"+ wide. dark in colour, rangind from light bronw (almost white) at the "stem" with dark brown "caps" coming out everywhere. the caps almost looked liek messed up bracket fungid growing from a log. htey were spaced about 25' apart.

not expecting an answer to what they are but there are canadians on this board so mayeb by chance someone saw these. anyway biggest fungus i have ever seen.

peace.
