TOPIC: Sterility in Fumes

Sterility in Fumes 5 years ago #981

Hi everyone! My first post here.... I have an idea for a different
kind of flow hood for mycellium transfers and the like. It's kind of
simple, and pretty much just involves using a big cooking pot
with steamy-hot water. You'd fit a rack in the bottom of the pot
with the fumes steadily rising above it, and your work placed
in this vapor. With sterile water, it would be just as good as using
a HEPA filter, would it not?

Hi, and welcome to the site lordittherize.

I see not reason why your idea won?t work. The only problem I see is working in all the steam.

There?s a similar process I read about a while back using an oven. Basically you warm up an oven, pull out a rack, and work in the warm updraft of air, which keeps airborne contaminants from falling onto the work surface.

Give your flow hood a try and let us know if it works.

With any luck I'll be trying this out tomorrow /w taking a mycellium
culture from an agaricus store mushroom. Will definitely report
on my findings...

Well, it seems to have worked for the time being... I don't know
about it though, there seems to be a lot easier ways of
doing it.
